Zimbabwe Cricket Announces ODI and T20I Squads for Pakistan Series

Zimbabwe Cricket has announced its ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming white-ball series against Pakistan, introducing three uncapped players: Trevor Gwandu, Tashinga Musekiwa, and Tinotenda Maposa. The series will consist of three ODIs and three T20Is, all scheduled to be played in Bulawayo from November 24 to December 5, 2024.

Uncapped Talent Joins ODI Squad

While Gwandu and Musekiwa have previously represented Zimbabwe in T20Is, 21-year-old pacer Maposa is set for his first international appearance. Despite his limited experience of just three List A matches, where he has claimed four wickets, selectors are optimistic about his potential.

The bowling attack will continue to rely on the experienced duo of Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava, providing stability in both formats.

Experienced Core Meets Emerging Stars

Convener of selectors David Mutendera emphasized the importance of blending experience with youth. He stated:

“The series against Pakistan is an important platform for Zimbabwe, and we believe the ODI squad we have selected is well-rounded. Seasoned players like Craig [Ervine], Sikandar [Raza], and Sean [Williams] provide stability, while young players like Clive Madande, Brian Bennett, Dion Myers, and the uncapped trio bring energy and the potential for game-changing moments.”

Veteran Sean Williams makes his return to the ODI squad after missing the Sri Lanka tour earlier this year due to injury. However, both he and Craig Ervine, the ODI captain, have been excluded from the T20I side.

T20I Squad Retains Winning Formula

Zimbabwe’s T20I squad remains unchanged from the team that triumphed in the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 sub-regional qualifiers in Kenya. The continuity reflects the team’s impressive cohesion, including a record-breaking highest T20I total during the tournament.

Mutendera explained:

“We felt it was essential to maintain the same T20I squad that excelled in Kenya. This continuity allows the team to build on the cohesion and confidence that drove their outstanding performance.”

Key Fixtures and Venue

The series kicks off with the first ODI on November 24, 2024, and concludes with the final T20I on December 5, 2024. All six matches will be played at Queens Sports Club, Bulawayo.
