West Indies Clinch ODI Series Win Against Bangladesh with Seven-Wicket Victory

West Indies secured a seven-wicket win over Bangladesh in St Kitts to claim the three-match ODI series, marking their first ODI series victory against Bangladesh in ten years. This win followed their historic victory in the first ODI, where they ended Bangladesh’s 11-match winning streak against them.

Bangladesh posted a total of 227 in 45.5 overs, with Jayden Seales starring with career-best figures of 4 for 22. The West Indies chase was led by Brandon King’s 82, as they reached the target in 36.5 overs. King’s aggressive knock set the stage, while captain Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford, who scored 113 in the first ODI, were unbeaten to see the team home.

Seales played a pivotal role in dismantling Bangladesh’s top order, taking three early wickets. Gudakesh Motie supported well with 2 for 36, keeping the visitors under control throughout the middle overs. Bangladesh’s total was bolstered by a 92-run partnership between Mahmudullah (62) and Tanzim Hasan, a record for the eighth wicket for Bangladesh. However, the West Indies bowling attack was too strong, and Bangladesh’s innings was cut short.

Seales struck early, removing Soumya Sarkar, Litton Das, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz in the first powerplay. Tanzid Hasan played a fighting knock but fell for 46, while Mahmudullah’s steady innings came to an end when he was dismissed in the 45th over. His 62 was his third consecutive ODI fifty.

In response, West Indies started strong with King hitting five boundaries in the first seven overs. Lewis, initially slower off the mark, quickly accelerated, hitting three boundaries off Tanzim. After King reached his half-century off 52 balls, both players continued to dominate, putting on a century partnership. Lewis made 49 before he was dismissed, while King fell for 82 after hitting eight fours and three sixes.

Keacy Carty, taking advantage of fielding errors, played a quick knock of 45, while Rutherford finished things off, hitting two sixes to guide West Indies to a comfortable victory. This win completed a successful series for West Indies, who now have back-to-back ODI series wins after beating England last month.
