The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have named Omkar Salvi as their new bowling coach ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Salvi, who has garnered significant recognition for his coaching accomplishments in Indian domestic cricket, will look to bolster RCB’s bowling unit in their pursuit of their maiden IPL title.

Omkar Salvi’s Coaching Journey

Salvi, 46, comes to RCB with a proven track record:

  • Guided Mumbai to Ranji Trophy Glory: Under his coaching, the Mumbai senior men’s side clinched the Ranji Trophy after an eight-year drought and later triumphed in the Irani Cup against Rest of India.
  • IPL Experience with KKR: Salvi was part of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) coaching staff during their victorious 2024 IPL campaign, marking his only prior experience in the league.

Having made a strong impact on domestic cricket, Salvi is now poised for his next challenge at the helm of RCB’s bowling department.

RCB’s Vision with Salvi

RCB’s Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat, expressed enthusiasm about Salvi’s appointment, highlighting his technical acumen and ability to nurture fast bowlers.

“With his vast experience, especially in developing fast bowlers, and proven success at the domestic and IPL levels, Omkar Salvi is the perfect fit for our coaching team. His expertise and leadership will add immense value to our squad and environment.”

Bobat emphasized that Salvi’s inclusion is a step forward in strengthening RCB’s bowling attack, a critical component for excelling in T20 cricket.

Reuniting with Dinesh Karthik

Salvi will work alongside Dinesh Karthik, who was recently appointed as RCB’s batting coach. The duo previously collaborated during their time with KKR, a partnership that proved fruitful.
