Litton Kumar Das to Lead Bangladesh in T20I Series Against West Indies

Bangladesh will begin their T20I series against the West Indies on December 15, with Litton Kumar Das leading a 15-man squad. The series marks a new chapter for Bangladesh cricket, as they look to rebuild after the retirements of two key players, Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah.
The squad sees several changes, including the recall of Soumya Sarkar, Afif Hossain, Shamim Hossain Patwari, Nasum Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud, and Ripon Mondol, all of whom have been given the opportunity to stake a claim in the national team. With the retirement of Shakib and Mahmudullah, Bangladesh will be looking to new faces to fill the void left by these experienced all-rounders.
Najmul Hossain Shanto, who led the T20I squad in their last series in India, is still recovering from a groin injury that had previously sidelined him from the Test and ODI formats. While Shanto’s leadership during the India series was commendable, his form in T20Is has been less than stellar, making it uncertain whether he will reclaim the captaincy once fit. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) decided not to appoint Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the captain for this series despite him serving as a stand-in captain for the Tests and ODIs on the current tour, as he is not a regular in the T20I side.
Key players such as Towhid Hridoy, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam, and Rakibul Hasan have not been included in the squad, signaling that the team management is looking to experiment with fresh talent.
The squad for the upcoming series is as follows:
Bangladesh Squad:
- Litton Kumar Das (Captain)
- Soumya Sarkar
- Tanzid Hasan Tamim
- Parvez Hossain Emon
- Afif Hossain
- Mehidy Hasan Miraz
- Jaker Ali Anik
- Shamim Hossain Patwari
- Sheikh Mahedi Hasan
- Rishad Hossain
- Nasum Ahmed
- Taskin Ahmed
- Tanzim Hasan Sakib
- Hasan Mahmud
- Ripon Mondol
This squad will be looking to put up a strong performance against the West Indies, with many players aiming to prove their worth and cement their places in the team for future international fixtures. The series will also provide a platform for Bangladesh to build a new era in T20 cricket following the departures of two of their most senior and influential players.
