Former Indian cricketer WV Raman on Thursday suggested that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) bring on batting legend Sachin Tendulkar as a consultant for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Raman believes Tendulkar’s guidance could help revive the form of star batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, who recently struggled against New Zealand.

India’s batting came under scrutiny after a recent whitewash by New Zealand, where the batting lineup struggled against spin, losing 37 wickets to New Zealand’s spinners over three Tests. Kohli and Rohit were notably off form, scoring just 93 and 91 runs respectively, marking one of their poorest performances in a home series.

With India’s series against Australia on the horizon, Raman took to social media to propose that Tendulkar’s expertise could significantly benefit Kohli and Rohit. “I think that #TeamIndia could benefit if they have the services of #Tendulkar as the batting consultant in their prep for the #BGT2025,” Raman tweeted. “Roping in consultants is rather common these days. Worth a thought?”

How Tendulkar Previously Helped Kohli After His 2014 England Tour

This wouldn’t be the first time Tendulkar has mentored Kohli through a tough phase. Kohli’s tour of England in 2014 is remembered as a challenging period, where he scored only 134 runs across 10 innings. Following this “lowest point” of his career, Kohli sought Tendulkar’s guidance, who helped him address issues in his stance and hip alignment, focusing on the importance of a balanced position and a big forward stride against fast bowlers.

The mentorship paid off during Kohli’s subsequent tour of Australia, where he scored 692 runs at an average of 86.50, including four centuries in as many Tests, establishing him as a world-class batsman.

With Kohli and Rohit possibly touring Australia for the last time, Raman’s suggestion of bringing in Tendulkar could offer valuable support to the Indian batting lineup in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.
