B Sai Sudharsan Undergoes Surgery, Expected to Miss Vijay Hazare Trophy

B Sai Sudharsan, the 23-year-old batter from Tamil Nadu and Gujarat Titans (GT), has undergone surgery for a sports hernia in London. The young cricketer shared a positive update on social media, saying, “Will be back stronger in no time.” Sudharsan, who has made his international debut in ODIs and T20Is, was previously on the fringes of the India Test team.
Before the surgery, Sudharsan featured in only one Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 game this season, scoring 9 against Tripura. He then proceeded to the BCCI’s National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for recovery. As a result, he is expected to miss the entire Vijay Hazare Trophy 50-over domestic tournament, which runs from December 21 to January 18.
Sudharsan had a strong outing with India A in Australia earlier this season, scoring 21 and 103 in the first four-day game but failed in the second innings with scores of 0 and 3. Prior to that, he had an impressive run in the Ranji Trophy, scoring 82 against Saurashtra and 213 against Delhi in his first two innings of the season.
The right-hander was retained by Gujarat Titans for INR 8.50 crore (approximately $1.1 million) ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Sudharsan was one of five players retained by the franchise, alongside Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Rahul Tewatia, and Shahrukh Khan. With the IPL 2025 season starting in March, GT will be hopeful for his full recovery and expect him to continue his excellent form from the previous season, where he scored 527 runs in 12 innings, with an average of 47.90 and a strike rate of 141.28.
